Start a Review
From the Deep Research page
- Click Deep Research in the sidebar to open medbot.me/research . The page asks What do you want to find out?
- Type your clinical question in the box, for example: in adults with type 2 diabetes, do SGLT2 inhibitors reduce hospitalisation for heart failure? Questions can be up to 4,000 characters. Press Enter to submit, or Shift+Enter for a new line. The Try row under the box has example questions you can start from.
- Choose a mode with the Auto / Manual toggle. Manual is the default.
- Choose the review’s model. The model marked Default is the platform default. The model is fixed for the life of the review.
- Optionally, open the review options (the button shows the article limit, for example Up to 1,000 articles, and the summary line under the box has a Change link). See Review options.
- Click Start review.
What happens next depends on the mode:
- Manual opens the review on the Question stage. Your question is the first message in the conversation, and Medbot’s first reply, a proposed PICO question with any questions it has for you, streams in. See Question and Criteria.
- Auto creates the review, starts the run and opens it. Every stage runs in turn; you can watch the run log in the conversation.
You can prefill the question box by linking to medbot.me/research?q=<your question>.
Review options
On a computer the options open in a Review options popover; on a phone they open in a sheet, which also holds the model picker (Review model).
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Extra reviewers for title and abstract screening | Add up to two more models, each of which screens every article as a second opinion. Cost grows with each one. When reviewers split, the review model decides. |
| Extra reviewers for eligibility and data extraction | Add up to two more models for full-text eligibility. Useful where extraction errors matter most. |
| Most articles to retrieve | The most PubMed records the search keeps, from 1 to 10,000. Default 1,000. |
| Synthesis | Decide from the data (default): meta-analysis when two or more studies report the same effect with a confidence interval, otherwise narrative. Meta-analysis: pool effect estimates, falling back to narrative (and saying why) if nothing can be pooled. Narrative: a structured narrative synthesis without pooling. |
| Title | The review’s title, up to 160 characters. Defaults to the question. |
Extra reviewers can only be added when you start a review. The search always uses PubMed.

The Deep research section of the workspace sidebar lets you start a review while writing a note:

- Choose Auto (the default here) or Manual.
- Auto runs every stage on the default model, searching PubMed.
- Manual opens the review in a new tab, where you refine the question, criteria and search with Medbot.
