Services & Consumables
Services are the clinical procedures the clinic offers. Devices and substances are the non-medication supplies it stocks. Find them at Billing → Services (/services) and Billing → Devices & substances (/consumables). Doctors and nurses pick from these lists when they place orders.
Who can do this
| Task | Clinic Admin | Receptionist | Doctor | Nurse |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| See services, devices, and substances | Yes | No | Yes | Yes |
| Add, edit, price, retire, or delete an entry | Yes | No | No | No |
Doctors and nurses see the lists without any buttons. Receptionists cannot open either page.
Services
The Services table shows Service, Slug, Status, and Price. A service with no price shows Unpriced.
- Select Add service.
- Enter a Name and a Catalog slug (lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens; it fills in from the name). Add a SNOMED code, a description, and an expected consumable if you want. SNOMED is a standard clinical coding system.
- Select Create service.
Use the row’s actions menu (Actions for the service) to choose:
- Edit to change the name, description, or expected consumable.
- Set price (or Update price once priced) to open the billable definition for that service with its slug filled in. See Billable Catalog.
- Retire to take a service out of use. A retired service shows Set Active in the same menu.
Devices and substances
The Devices & substances table shows Item, Slug, Type, Status, and Price. Use Search devices and substances… to filter.
- Select Add device or Add substance.
- Enter a Name, a Catalog slug, and the Dispensable unit (for example pack, unit, or box). A SNOMED code is optional, as is a model number for a device or a description for a substance.
- Select Create device or Create substance.
The actions menu offers Edit, Retire (Set Active to restore), and Delete. An item that has inventory lots on record cannot be deleted. The message reads “This device has inventory lots on record and cannot be deleted. Retire it instead to keep movement history readable.” The same rule applies to substances. Stock levels and receiving are on Inventory & Stock.
